Way to go South Dakota!

I am sure many may have heard about the great stand that the State of South Dakota has taken to outlaw abortion in their state, the bill was signed yesterday by Governor Mike Rounds. This could be monumental for the rest of the states to begin passing similar legislation. Abortion is murder, no doubt about it, and the Supreme Court has often times come down on the side that it is the right of the states to decide if they would keep it legal or outlaw it. We shall see if they have anything to say about this.

So what do you think? Is this something that we the people of Tennessee would like to have in our state? What do you think are the Constitutional ramifications for us here in TN, both at the State and National level?
What say ye'all?

So, it is the fault of the child that the rape occured, and thus the child should be murdered to supposedly "right the wrong". Sounds nuts to me, but not just nuts, wrong.

Why is this guy running for office anyway? He doesn't have a snowball's chance at winning, Folks like this Twofeathers guy only split the vote, and in an election with an incumbent, that will only serve to let that idiot Bredesen get back in office.

Split the vote?!? With who??? Your are clearly miss-informed, it is not over until the Primary election votes are cast and one person is chosen. And only a snowball's chance in hell? Well with that attitude maybe, but I am much more optimistic. I would rather take a stand for what is right and vote for the best man, than to just bend over and "take it" like the liberal left would just prefer us to do. Theodore Roosevelt had something to say about your type of thinking: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”

This is NOT something I would like to see in Tennnessee. I feel citizens need less government involvement in their personal lives. I do not want "Uncle Sam" making my medical decisions. Being forced to carry out an unwanted pregnancy, forced to remain on life support or force to endure cancer treatment if this is not what I want for MYSELF.

I also do not believe banning abortion will stop it, only make the procedure illegal and unsafe as it was in the past. The rich will still have access to abortion and the poor will become poorer as their populations increase. You will see more babies in dumpsters, and more deaths from botched "alley" abortions.

Your points are taken, and they are your opinions and beliefs, but they do not deminish the fact in any way that abortion is murder and a sin and that is something that the State should not endorse. If it is done unlawfully, then those who do so will be prosecuted by the law just as any other murderer would.
It should be one of the primary objects of the State to uphold the value of all life, primarily that of the innocent and helpless.

I do not believe banning drunk driving will stop it, only make it illegal. The purpose of making anything illegal is not to "stop it" but to both deter those who would otherwise engage in the activity and punish those who do so in contravention of the law. This is a silly argument either for or against legalizing/prohibiting anything.

Abortion is already the only medical procedure that guarantees at least 50% mobidity.

Great point submandave, that goes right along what I was saying. It is not so much about it being safe or not, it is 100% unsafe for at least one person durring the procedure and therefore should not be practiced. And no one seems to want to admit the fact that IT IS WRONG TO MURDER, ANYONE! therefore, it is not something that the state government (the people) should endorse, that is if they are a moral people. Comeon folks, get your head out of the crapper!
